Best days of my life
The Mysterious Letter
I received this letter the other day,
Abandoned on my hostel’s doorway,
No name, no address.
Looked like an accident,
But sensed an instant attachment,
Couldn’t ignore it.
Made my way to open it,
Felt it had something to blurt,
Front side was blank.
Turned the letter round,
Made me astounded,
All it had was ‘Nffu bu 4, Xftugjfme Bwfovf cz 6 qn.’
Left me baffled,
Startled and boggled,
Maybe the kid next door?
I didn’t know what to do with it,
Leave it, throw it away, tell someone?
A thousand thoughts in my head.
Looked too mature for a child’s prank;
The writing and details couldn’t be of a child to be frank,
Decided to take it seriously and crack it down.
Peered at it carefully,
Turned and flipped it cautiously,
Maybe there was more to it than I could see.
But... no, nothing there,
Just me and my inner me debating if I should dare?
I found something!
There was a pattern I failed to see,
“Oh! How could I be so silly?” I said to me,
A hidden message!
I got to work,
Looking more or a less a quirk,
Still ready to solve this peculiar looking message.
The letters meant to be written on that note,
Were one behind of what the stranger actually wrote.
So, the ‘N’ was actually an ‘M’, and the ‘F’ an ‘E’!
I carefully started decoding every letter,
My heart thumping as every word looked familiar.
It’s finally there!
It says... um...
“Meet at 4, Westfield Avenue by 6 pm.”
A cold shiver ran down my spine.
Is that meant to be for me?
Or is it a hoax I’m unable to foresee?
Is someone waiting for me there?
I look up at the clock,
Perfectly chiming at every o’clock...
Getting closer to 6 pm.
I decided to take someone with me,
Or just not go maybe,
But my conscience wasn’t letting me.
I began walking, feeling very obscure,
Adrenaline rushing through me like never before.
With each footstep pleading me to walk back... I didn’t stop.
I got to the place I had to explore,
Knocked, no response. Pushed the creaking door,
Complete darkness, didn’t see a thing.
My heart hitting a 1000 times faster,
“Hello?” My voice trembled, sensing danger.
Bam!
I shut my eyes, SCARED!
Opened them with courage gathered,
And...
BANG!
Lights up,
Music on,
Bursts of screams!
It was a REUNION!
The moment where my brain stopped to function...
Standing there were my BEST friends,
With tons of smiles on their faces!
Seeing them after 3 whole years wasn’t as easy as it seemed to be!
Couldn’t believe how beautifully today’s events got unfolded to me!
What I learnt was...
Friendships are certainly never limited to distance, time or country
Today was...
Unforgettable,
Etched,
Reminiscent...
