Making someone Smile :)

Making someone smile :)

I’d never thought I would be writing something like this about what happiness means to me. Because that’s the thing about being happy, it’s different for everyone and personal. What makes someone happy, might not be the reason for someone else’s happiness at times. But I really desire and want that we feel the same about this.

I feel like being happy is the new craze. From feel-good playlists on Spotify to adventurous visits/ photos on Instagram to videos of achievements on Facebook. I mean yeah, it’s great. You should be happy about all these things in life but somehow, I’ve begun to feel drenched with ideas on being happy. It has begun to feel like a bombardment of pressure. Somehow, to me, it feels more like a brag than the actual happiness.

Last year, I went to visit an orphanage, the kids some of them full of life and excitement, some feeling low about life. I’d went to spend some time. The kids were playing musical chairs and it all went great. The kids laughed, danced some cried because they couldn’t win. After the game, there was a musical documentary about life. It portrayed that it is not necessary you always need to be happy, strong or brave. It is okay to feel crappy sometimes. It’s life, it has ups and downs. As kids, I don’t know if they felt the emotions behind the documentary, but for me I surely did. After this, we sat and had lunch together, bought them some chocolates. And at that moment, I realized all those kids just needed someone or something that makes them smile.

Over the years, I’ve worked out that I want to make people smile, make them happy and it’s the least I can do for someone. Trust me when I say this when you’re the reason for someone’s smile, that feeling is magical. And, at the end of the day, you’d be happy too, maybe more than them. People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, people will never forget how you made them feel.  And it’s nothing abstruse, just little things, you need not spend a penny.

It’s small things like listening to someone, telling them it will all be okay. Just complimenting someone. Letting someone know you miss them/ love them. Telling someone you’re proud of them. These are the little gestures that can make people smile. I am sure many of you’ll love Marvel superhero movies. Try to be someone’s superhero just by making them smile, just small gestures. I guarantee it will be the best feeling being called a superhero. And also, it is not always necessary to be happy and make people smile. As I said it’s ok to feel crappy sometimes, and on those days, you will find people who will make you smile.

But always remember happiness is a choice and smiles are contagious and is the only contagious thing that should never be kept to ourselves. The more the merrier. Being happy with what you have is a matter of focusing on the good things in your life, letting go of unrealistic burdens and expectations, and doing your best to make yourself feel good in the here and now.

A few things you should focus on:

·         Take a moment to think about your many gifts.

·         Let go of the past.

·         Stop comparing yourself to others.

·         Focus on your happiest memories.

·         Thank others for the effect they have on your life.

·         Surround yourself with things that make you happy.

·         Have fun!

With all the stresses of daily life, it’s easy to forget to simply have a good time every once in a while. There are many ways to do this — only you know what your idea of a good time is. Some people will like going to parties or clubs. Others will prefer reading on the beach. Some will enjoy a good movie. Whatever you enjoy, always make time to do it regularly. Remember: there are no rewards for avoiding fun.

At the end of the day, make a cup of chamomile tea or a caramel macchiato. Drink it and smile about all the good things in life. This one is for you. I hope this made you’ll smile. Let’s smile a little more today😊 and it only takes 17 muscles to smile after all. (FYI – 43 to frown.)

The image below is an example of how happiness is a choice and it depends on us.
