MIND GAMES
Clearly, at this point, we know there’s no such thing as “work-life balance.” There never was, and there definitely isn’t now, during a pandemic. And then there’s “work hard, play hard.” Remember that old chestnut? The assumption was that the harder you work, the more plentiful and enjoyable your leisure time will be.
Too much advice and opinion assume one-size-fits-all. For our wellbeing and mental health, this works about as well as it works for shoes and clothes – not at all. What fits one person, will hurt another. What works for dancers does not work for coders. We are as different psychologically as we are different physically. We’ve been so conditioned to value productivity over everything else, that many of us feel guilty or anxious when we do anything purely for enjoyment.
It can often feel like our lives are messy, cluttered, overwhelming, scattered.Like a messed up house, our lives can feel like a huge mess.
In our houses, things can get messy when we just put things in random places. So when we declutter, it’s not just about getting rid of things we don’t want — it’s also about finding a home for everything we do want. A place for everything.
Once we have a home for each item, it’s a matter of training ourselves to put them back where they belong. And once this is in place, things can feel much more sane. It’s not about keeping to a perfect system, it’s about knowing where things go, and then allowing ourselves to relax into that structure.
You have to make peace with the fact that some days are productive and some aren’t. Pushing yourself too hard will always hamper your mental health. Many people compare each other’s days with others. In their mind they always think that “He had a more positive/productive day than me”. If you look into reality not all days are positive.
The internet has become a place where everyone loves to show-off and highlight their lives in a way that others think their life is boring . But you should keep in mind that ‘Not everything on the internet is as good as it seems’. The Internet has become a boon but also a bane. As I mentioned earlier, no one posts bad moments of their life on social media. But we forget this from time to time.
Here are a few things you can try to keep a healthy mindset..
Encourage physical fitness. Exercise can help with stress and anxiety as well as getting into the flow at work.
Do the things you actually like.
Develop your skills.
Find the snatches of joy.
Ask yourself: What's the worst that could happen?
See leisure as a cornerstone of your life.
These are things that you can try doing, but in the end you have to find something for yourself.
So, just take care of yourself; make yourself happy by doing little things <3
